Comparison of ocular manifestations in diabetic vs. non-diabetic patients in southern Rajasthan

Background: Effects of DM are gradual, progressive and due to chronic exposure high blood sugar levels. also affect the eyes which can lead ocular morbidity as DR cause blindness. In that view, it becomes increasingly important diagnose them at earliest for proper management prevention complications.Methods: A total 182 patients examined, out 91 were diabetic non diabetic. Complete examination was done included visual acuity, anterior segment fundus. Diabetic retinopathy graded according ETDRS classification. divided into 3 groups on basis HbA1c level (%): group-A (6-8), group-B (8-10) group-C (>10). Patients duration (years): group1 (<5), group-2 (5-10) group-3 (>10).Results: Ocular manifestations more prevalent in diabetics than non-diabetics along with found no non-diabetic patients. Out patients, 30(33.3%) 30 DR, NPDR 25(75%) PDR 5 (15%). group A, B C: 0, 17 (58%) 13 (86%) respectively. group1,2 (7.5%), 11 (35.4%) 16 (80%) respectively.Conclusions: Longer diabetes higher associated increased prevalence severity DR.
